The Climate Finance Blending Facility, launched in 2022, is a first-of-its-kind blended f inance vehicle designed to unlock long-term local-currency financing for distributed renewable energy (DRE) projects in Nigeria. Capitalised with USD 21.3 million in first-loss and subordinated concessional funding from FCDO and British International Investment (BII), CFBF blends donor capital with InfraCredit’s guarantees to reduce risk premiums and enable first-time clean-energy bond issuances. Since inception, the Facility has supported four pioneering DRE developers, enabling over 1.7 MW of off-grid solar generation, thousands of new connections, and more than 2,000 jobs. With a verified pipeline exceeding ₦240 billion, CFBF demonstrates strong scalability and serves as a replicable model for localising climate finance in emerging markets. Its structure—combining donor first-loss, guarantee enhancement, and local-currency mobilisation— offers a blueprint for accelerating energy access across Africa.
